Welcome to Play 15

Follow their lead, adapt to their individual differences and connect with children in their play - that is the message of this leading edge, community development & train-the-trainer program for parents, educators and clnicians.

Play15 has been designed to advance early childhood development and education (birth to 8 years of age). It is a unique tool that incorporates theory and practical applications from the disciplines of occupational therapy, physiotherapy and speech pathology couched in a framework consistent with emergent curriculum practices.

This experiential community development program explains and demonstrates sensory processing, motor, speech, language and other cognitive elements of development. It also explores their impact and value for child development in all areas. It emphasizes the importance of variety, and the role of the expert partner in sensitively supporting the development of the child.

Play15 has been designed to be a flexible tool that can be used in the workplace or home by professionals and parents alike. To this end the program has 2 distinct levels:

1. The Professional Series - for educators with tertiary qualifications in early childhood development and education, and allied health professionals with training in child development, and experience working with children and their families.
2. The Expert Partner's Series - for daycare providers, parents, grandparents and anyone vitally interested in the healthy development of children

The Play 15 program provides:

  • A lively, interactive workshop program
  • Support materials to use in the workplace and with parents
  • A curriculum implementation tool that is easy and practical to use on a daily basis
  • A play analysis system that provides screening and monitoring of individual children’s play to facilitate referrals between educators and health professionals
  • Strategies to modify play experiences so that developmental impact is maximised
  • A framework that optimises the utilisation of existing resources (both human and physical)
  • A team building workshop that enhances communication and working relationships between multidisciplinary team members
  • A common language for describing observations to parents and then developing appropriate action plans as required.

Because of its focus on the neurophysiological foundations that underlie play and learning, Play15 is compatible with any existing play-based curriculum. The science behind early childhood development becomes real and accessible through the Play15 program and enables the 15 core skills of development to be integrated into existing early childhood programs or clinical practices.

Through this refreshing, practical and fun-filled workshop, teachers can be inspired to provide truly individualised and innovative play-based learning experiences that maximise each child’s potential....for clinicians it provides complementary tools that enhance parent education and understanding, and is helpful in consultations to schools and groups.

The first question we are usually asked is "Why Play 15?"

Play - because it is one of the most important life occupations there is. It is through play that we discover ourselves physically, socially and emotionally - we experiment with the possibilities of life and we make decisions about how we are going to operate in the world. The quality and variety of our play experience determines so much about the way we interact with the world as adults...

15 - because we believe that most of us start life with the same basic abilities – and that a lot of what makes the difference in how these abilities develop as we grow are 15 core elements that when consistently included in a child’s play will fundamentally shift their perceptions of themselves and their abilities for the better. 15 is also for the time every day that we encourage every parent and every person who has daily loving contact with a child, to spend in their world - playing with them there, creating and building connections that will sustain you and them for a lifetime!
